Prince of Persia: Sands of Time-May 2010

With Entertainment Weekly (EW)’s Comic-Con preview hitting the newsstands, a brand new photo of “Prince of Persia: Sands of Time” has been unraveled by the magazine. It is the first official picture from the upcoming video game adaptation, and it features Jake Gyllenhaal as Dastan, a sixth-century Persian prince.

Accompanying the photo, EW included a piece of its interview with the leading actor. “I’m tired of taking myself so seriously,” the 28-year-old Academy Awards nominee talked about doing his own stunts, like sword-fighting, climbing walls, and jumping off of buildings. “It’s nice when a stuntman turns to you and is like, ‘Actors don’t normally do this.’ ”Back in 2008, set photos of the actor had surfaced. Taken from the Moroccan set of the movie, the pictures display topless Gyllenhaal dressed in a full Prince of Persia’s costume, while holding hands with his girlfriend Reese Witherspoon. There, he is seen sporting a scruffy look with new long hairdo.

Based on Ubisoft Montreal’s 2003 video game of the same name, “Prince of Persia: Sands of Time” follows Dastan, a street urchin in 6th century Persia who after showing valor in battle, is adopted by the king as his heir. Now as the fate of the world is in jeopardy, he must join forces with Tamina, a feisty and exotic princess, to prevent a villainous nobleman from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.

Directed by “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” helmer Mike Newell, the Walt Disney’s feature project is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. Joining Jake Gyllenhaal in the cast are Gemma Arterton, Ben Kingsley and Alfred Molina. The action adventure movie is set to be released in the U.S. May 28, 2010.
